Meet our Confirmation Students!
This week: Jeanna Scanlon Hi, my name is Jeanna Scanlon! I am 16, and am in the 11th grade. My mom and dad are Mike and Robi, who support me in many ways. I am involved in cross country, basketball, track, FBLA, choir, band, colorguard, the musical, and jazz. On my free time, I really enjoy being with my friends and family, and doing art projects. I hope when I am confirmed I can teach the love and story of God and Jesus to younger kids. I think it is very important for everyone to have a connection with God and to be informed about Him. I am very blessed and lucky to have the opportunity to be confirmed! I would like to thank my Family, CCD teachers, and God for leading me through my journey. St. Francis Xavier This week is the feast of St. Francis Xavier. As a young man, Xavier met Ignatius of Loyola at the University of Paris. Xavier was inspired by his friend’s zeal and devotion. When Xavier was 31, he became one of the first members of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits). The order presented themselves to the Pope for service as missionaries. Xavier would spend the rest of his life traveling the world and spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ. He served side by side with the poor in India, modern-day Malaysia, Pacific Islands, and ultimately Japan. Rather than imposing on the people, Xavier wore local dress and arranged translations of religious texts into the local language. It’s estimated that he baptized 30,000 people. His charismatic joy is an inspiration for all who want to bring people to Christ. Calendar of Events: 12-7: Altaration DVD (explaining the parts of the Mass) 9am; part 2 of 4; 15 min. This week: Victoria Smith My name is Victoria Smith. I am in 11th grade, I am 17 years old. My mom’s name is Pat and my dad’s name is Robert. I have one sister and one brother. My activities I do are working at the Waterford and I run track and field. I want to be confirmed because I want to come closer with my faith. My Catholic faith to me means being respectful and taking time of of everything else you do and spend time praying. I see my future sharing my faith the people who don’t really know what faith is and how important it is. A Thanksgiving Prayer Good and gracious God, You do all things well. You make the sun and rain come, nurturing the earth, making it fertile and fruitful. Through Your gift of creation and the work of our hands, we reap an abundant harvest. We give You thanks for Your many gifts that sustain us; for health and home, dignified labor, for family, friends, neighbors, and those whom -- today -- we may still consider enemies. As we reflect in thanks this day, may we remember those who lack something we have. May our gratitude move us to love, serve, and give. Together we rejoice in Your gifts, and in Your abundant life! Amen. Calendar: Nov 21: No Classes Nov 28: Classes for gr K-5 & 6-9 Dec 2: 1st Sunday of Advent. Most of us when asked for something -- whether it be our time, our talent, or our treasure -- assess whether we can "afford" to fulfill the request and still preserve our own needs. Have we ever given the last bit of what we had knowing that we will have to do without so that someone else can benefit? We all tend to be a little covetous of our time, talent, and treasure. There are people throughout history who have given everything away only to find that they have received much more in return. St. Francis of Assisi is a prime witness. The Scriptures today bring us two widows who do the same. Do we see in people such as this examples of foolishness or wisdom, inspiration, and hope? Calendar: Nov 14: All classes meet Nov 21: No Classes Nov 28: Classes for gr K-5 & 6-9 Dec 2: 1st Sunday of Advent. Sophomore Confirmation Introduction & 2nd grade Commitment Mass: 9:30am Dec 8: Feast of the Immaculate Conception (Holy Day of Obligation) Do not judge others just because they sin differently than you. This week: William Graf Hi, I’m William Graf, a 16-year-old at Chequamegon High School. I will be starting my Junior year with my first sport, wrestling, and following with baseball. Last year, I was inducted into NHS and strive to earn high academic achievements. I’m the son of Karen and Kyle Graf with one brother, David Graf. Being confirmed will bring me closer with God, making my Catholic faith more meaningful, which I hope to share with others once I feel the time is right in the near future. INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK Love of God and love of neighbor are intimately bound together. You cannot have one without the other. Who are my neighbors and how do I love them? It is easy to confess with our lips that we love our neighbor. But how does this get translated into action? Our neighbors are not only those who live around us or are most familiar to us. Everyone is our neighbor: those who are foreign to us, those who have come here illegally, those who have hurt us, those we envy, those we take for granted, and those who are poor. Embracing humanity in all of its forms is not always an easy task and doing so can quickly take us out of our comfort zones. Working for justice, as God desires, often means adjusting how much I can have and sacrificing our wants and desires. The very image of God is on the faces of our neighbors, and our face can be found there as well. How much do we really love them?
